The dust has finally settled on our tires, and the sweat from our long journey across Flores has finally dried on our jerseys. We are thrilled to announce that the Locatour Indonesia 2025 Bikepacking Adventure has officially come to a close!

This wasn’t just a cycling trip; it was a soul-stirring expedition across the Lesser Sunda Islands—spanning Bali, Lombok, Sumbawa, and Flores. For those who joined us, it was a journey of grit, laughter, and breathtaking landscapes.

It’s About the Soul, Not the Speed

At Locatour, our philosophy remains the same: this is not a race. We don’t care about your average speed or your Strava segments. We care about the "Oohs" and "Aahs" when the sun rises over a volcanic ridge. This adventure is designed for those who want to breathe in the fresh air, connect with the earth, and immerse themselves in the rich tapestry of local wisdom.

The Highlights: Culture and Coastal Magic

While every kilometer had its own story, two moments truly captured the heart of our 2025 riders:

  • The Living Traditions of Sade Village, Mandalika: Pedaling into the Sasak traditional village of Sade felt like stepping back in time. We traded the sound of clicking gears for the rhythm of traditional weaving looms. Meeting the local elders and seeing the unique architecture made us realize that the best way to see Indonesia is definitely on two wheels—slow enough to say "Hello" to everyone you pass.
  • The Serenity of Kenawa Island: After miles of Sumbawa’s rugged terrain, Kenawa Island was our reward. A tiny, uninhabited gem with golden savannahs and turquoise water. There is nothing quite like camping under a blanket of stars, knowing your bike is resting right outside your tent, ready for the next island.

Chasing the Golden Hour at Merese Hill

As the day began to wind down, we made our way to the iconic Merese Hill (Bukit Merese). Known as one of the best vantage points in South Lombok, it did not disappoint.

We found a spot on the grassy cliffs, overlooking the vast Indian Ocean. As the sun began its slow descent, the sky transformed into a canvas of deep oranges, purples, and fiery reds. Watching the sunset from this height—feeling the cool ocean breeze while the landscape turned into a golden silhouette—was a deeply grounding experience.
